Lowerye flock featured in Farmer's Guardian - click here to read. A new star in the making? Our best Lowerye Eric son is now the highest index Charollais sire. ZVY 6084 (L.Great Guns), had an eye muscle depth of 44.5mm (a new breed record), a CT eye muscle area of 42.88sq cm (again a new breed record) and a muscularity ebv of 10.72. His carcass traits have not been bettered in 2007. A superb carcass sheep with a growth rate in the top 15% of the breed and an index of 486. His twin sister has also bred the ram lamb with the highest growth rate ebv in the breed (+17.12 kg). Quite a family! 66 of the top 100 index lambs in 2007 were produced from LOWERYE bloodlines (mostly Eric). In 2007 we will be offering semen for sale from L.Eric, L.Del Boy & W. Apostle.
The Lowerye (pronounced Lower Rye) flock has been a member of the Charollais Sire Reference Scheme since 1996 and we now stand as one of the largest and highest performance flocks of Charollais sheep in the UK. Rams are bred with an emphasis on growth rate and muscling which we consider to be the most important attributes for producing a TOP class commercial prime lamb, in fact we have bred the highest muscularity (from CT scanning) ram lambs for the last 3 of the last 4 years.
