LOWERYE DUKE. Updated: 06/06/2011
Lowerye Duke (ZVY 7101) was used as a sire reference ram in 1998 with excellent results including Interbreed Champion at the Royal Norfolk Show 1999 for a shearling ewe bred by Richard and Jane Easom (Grimston flock), that same ewe also made up one half of the Interbreed Pairs Champion. A shearling ram by Duke is also being shown successfully this season by Tony and June Gregory (Cold Harbour flock), culminating in winning 1st prize shearling ram at the Premier Sale in 2000. Lowerye Duke breeds long lambs that have exceptional muscling in the loin and gigot which typically have a tremendous head carriage. Duke himself stood 6th at the 3 Counties Show as a lamb. A very smart 'ARR/ARR' son of Duke, Lowerye Trooper (ZVY 8075), was sold privately to Bryan and Jano Evans' Penrhos (YLK) flock in Wales - winner of Champion pen at Builth Wells ram sales 1997 and 1998, Trooper is very well thought of in that flock, breeding stylish lambs with excellent performance figures. Two out of three Penrhos lambs at the 2000 Premier Sale were sired by Trooper. Many of Duke's daughters have been retained at Lowerye and are breeding exceptionally well.
Sire: Glenbrook Duke (NT 2030), Royal Show and Royal Highland Show champion in 1994. He was later sold at the Netherallan dispersal sale that year for 5000gns. His sire was Glenbrook Jarvis (NT 0020) who was sold for a record price of 15,600gns. Duke is line bred to the famous Jaques (H13 7054) breeder of many champions in Ireland and the UK.

Dam: Eversure Queenie (QN 9030), dam of Eversure Bacchus (QN 4030) - sire reference ram 1997 and Lowerye Brutus (ZVY 6100) - selected as a reference ram for 1997. Having been so impressed with Lowerye Brutus, we flushed Queenie to Glenbrook Duke and Lowerye Duke is one of the results from that ET program.
Many of Duke's ET siblings and his progeny were CT scanned during the calibration work on the scanner in 1997/8/9, where he was shown to breed incredible muscularity. 14 years after he was born, he remains the Charollais with the highest muscularity score at 8.27
