Lowerye Juggernaut. Updated: 05/06/2011
Juggernaut (ZVY9040) is a son of L.Del Boy (ZVY3198) out of an ET sister to double Royal Show winner, Rutland Ensign. She has been flushed for ET on several occasions and weighs over 130kg. Juggernaut was always the stand out lamb of the year with tremendous power and style coupled with a huge hindquarter. This was backed up by a CT scan that showed him to have the third highest gigot score measured to date, at +8.03!
Sire: Lowerye Del Boy (ZVY 3198) was the highest muscularity lamb in the 2003 Sire Reference Scheme. He CT scanned with the best gigot shape of any lamb that year and was the highest index son of Highway Mr Softie son, Lowerye Bert (ZVY 1001).
Lowerye Del Boy (ZVY 3198).
L.Del Boy was a tremendous carcass sheep, he was long with an extremely wide, full loin and superb hindquarters. His fleece was extremely tight and dense and he was absolutely correct in the mouth and feet, having short pasterns and dark feet, like his sire. He was always a thick, heavily fleshed lamb that had a line of muscling down his back from an early age and his progeny exhibit the same qualities.
He was an easy fleshing ram that was always in good condition and full of meat off grass. He scanned with an eye muscle of 36.3mm and a fat depth of 2.8mm at 150 days old. His gigot shape score from CT scanning was 69.6 and his muscularity ebv was +8.03mm.
He was selected by Robert Gregory (Edstaston flock) as a lamb and initially sold to that flock, when his exceptional ebv came back , Robert kindly agreed to sell me a half share back! Being so closely bred to the majority of the Lowerye flock he is of limited use to me but Robert has used him heavily with some fantastic results, a son of Del Boy being sold for 1,750 gns at the 2005 Premier Sale, another son sold to the Foulrice flock at the 2007 Premier Sale for 1,900 gns and another seeing heavy use in the Edstaston and Dalby flocks.
Del Boy's daughters in both flocks are proving to be extremely milky, as would be expected from the pedigree. His maternal ebv is the highest in the breed at +1.92kgs.
Dam: Juggernaut's dam is the outstanding ewe, Rutland Perky (ZFY 4035). She is an ET sister to double Royal Show winner, Rutland Ensign, that I purchased for 1,400 gns as a ewe lamb. Perky herself was shown at the Royal Show as a ewe lamb, coming 4th in a massive class. She has been flushed for ET on several occasions and weighs over 130kg. In 2010, she still looks like a young sheep and is sound and correct in every way. She is an exceptional mother, as are her numerous daughters in the flock, and no ewe gets near her lambs twice!
