LOWERYE BRUTUS. Updated: 03/06/2008
Lowerye Brutus - ZVY 6100.
Lowerye Brutus (ZVY 6100) was selected as sire reference ram for 1997 but unfortunately we never managed to freeze semen from him so his maternal brother Bacchus was used as a stand-in. We used Brutus extensively through AI and natural service in 1998 and achieved a conception rate of 94% to first service. In excess of 100 progeny have now been scanned in the sire reference scheme and Brutus remains the highest index son of Envoy in the scheme. He breeds extremely heavily fleshed lambs with a good fleece cover and a very masculine head. Brutus was sold in 1999 for use in another pedigree flock but his stamp remains through the number of daughters retained.
In 1999 and 2000 we have performed embryo transfer on daughters of Brutus and of ZVY 8111 in order to multiply these genetics within the flock. All of these embryos are sired by senior stock sire, Foulrice Lionheart, a incredibly powerful cross.
Sire: Netherallan Envoy (KS 4149) was used widely as sire reference ram in 1995 and was sold at that year's Premier Sale for 3,500gns weighing 158kgs. He was sired by Banville Baron (WZ 2001), Three Counties Show and Royal Show Champion in 1993 and his dam was female champion at the Royal Show 1993. Three sons of Envoy have been selected as reference rams in 1996 and 1997.
Dam: Eversure Queenie (QN 9030) was purchased at the Eversure dispersal sale as a 6 year old as the best member of the outstanding female line in the flock. She was purchased carrying two lambs by Netherallan Envoy of which Brutus was one. She is also the dam of Eversure Bacchus (QN 4030), reference ram 1997 and Lowerye Duke (ZVY 7101), reference ram 1998.
